Timeless Pet Portraits That Capture Who They Really Are

Your pet's personality deserves more than a quick snapshot. Whether they're goofy, dignified, energetic, shy, or perfectly content to do their own thing, I create beautiful, professional pet portraits that capture the little details that make them uniquely yours.

With studio and outdoor pet photography options in Winnipeg, sessions are relaxed, patient, and designed around your pet—not around making them behave perfectly for the camera.

Because the things you'll miss most someday are often the little things you never thought to photograph.

I Understand Dogs. And I Know They Don't Always Follow Directions.

I've spent years photographing dogs—not just my own three Goldens, but hundreds of rescue dogs and adoptable pets through my work with local rescues.

That experience has taught me that great pet photography isn't about having a perfectly trained dog who sits exactly where you tell them.

It's about patience. Reading body language. Knowing when to give a nervous dog space and when to bring out a little personality. Letting an energetic puppy move. Giving an older dog the time they need.

I've photographed pets who are confident, cautious, goofy, stubborn, curious, wiggly, elderly, and everything in between.

Your pet doesn't need to be perfectly behaved. They just need to be themselves.

Choose the Setting That Fits Your Pet

Studio Pet Photography

For clean, timeless portraits with beautiful controlled lighting, a studio session is a wonderful choice. The simple environment keeps the focus exactly where it belongs—on your pet.

Studio portraits are especially beautiful for individual pets, senior dogs, cats, and those classic portraits you'll want hanging on your wall for years.

Outdoor Pet Photography

For pets who love to explore, outdoor sessions give us room to move and let their personality shine naturally.

We can capture running, playing, sniffing, exploring, and those wonderfully imperfect moments that show exactly who your pet is.

Outdoor sessions are available seasonally in Winnipeg and can be combined with portraits of you and your pet.

Because They're Never With Us Long Enough

Senior pets hold a special place in my heart.

Their faces change. Their muzzles turn grey. Their pace slows down. Their personalities don't necessarily change—but the way they move through the world can.

A senior pet photography session doesn't have to involve running, jumping, or perfect poses. We can slow things down and create beautiful portraits that celebrate who they are right now.

If your dog is getting older, don't wait for the "perfect time."

This is the time worth remembering.

What If My Pet Won't Sit Still?

That's okay. Really.

Your dog doesn't need to know how to pose, sit perfectly, or look at the camera on command.

Some of the best photographs happen between the poses—when they're looking around, giving you that sideways glance, showing off their goofy grin, or simply being themselves.

We'll work at your pet's pace and use patience, movement, treats, toys, and plenty of encouragement when needed.

Perfect behaviour is not required.

FAQs

What types of pets do you photograph?

Dogs are my most frequent visitors, but I welcome all well-behaved pets! Whether you have a playful puppy, a senior dog, a cat with a big personality, or another beloved companion, I’d love to help create timeless portraits you’ll treasure.

Where do pet photography sessions take place?

Pet sessions can take place in my St. Boniface studio year round or at select outdoor locations seasonally. Together, we’ll choose the setting that best suits your pet’s personality.

My dog won’t sit still. Can we still do a session?

Absolutely! Very few dogs arrive knowing they’re supposed to be professional models. I work with your pet’s personality, use plenty of patience, and capture moments naturally. The best photos often happen in between the “sit” and the “stay.”

Do pets need to know commands?

Not at all. Basic commands can be helpful, but they’re definitely not required. Every pet is different, and I adapt each session to their comfort level and personality.

Can our family be in some of the photos?

Of course! Your pet is part of the family, and you’re welcome to jump into a few portraits together. Those often become some of the most meaningful images from the session.

What should I bring to the session?

Bring your pet’s favourite treats, a few toys, a leash, and anything that helps keep them comfortable. If there’s a special bandana, collar, or sentimental item you’d like included, feel free to bring that too.

What if my pet is nervous or shy?

That’s completely okay. I never rush a session. We’ll give your pet time to explore, sniff around, and get comfortable before we start. A calm, patient approach almost always leads to the best expressions.

Can senior pets be photographed?

Absolutely. Senior pets hold a special place in my heart, and these sessions are often some of the most meaningful. We work at your pet’s pace, with plenty of breaks, creating beautiful portraits that celebrate the bond you’ve built together.

What happens if the weather doesn’t cooperate?

If we’re planning an outdoor session and the weather isn’t ideal, we’ll simply reschedule for another date. Your pet’s comfort and safety always come first.

Why choose Sunny S-H Photography for pet portraits?

I’ve spent more than a decade photographing hundreds of rescue dogs and sharing my life with dogs of my own. That experience has taught me patience, how to read canine body language, and—most importantly—that every pet deserves to be photographed for who they are. Whether they’re goofy, energetic, reserved, or wonderfully stubborn, my goal is to create portraits that feel true to their personality and celebrate the bond you share.

Why is it so important to get pet portraits?

Pet portraits are about more than just beautiful photos.  They preserve the personality, quirks and bond you share with your pet. Our time with them is never long enough, and having professional portraits becomes even more meaningful as the years go by. Learn more on my blog: Why is it so important to get pet portraits?
