There’s something about fall in Winnipeg that just feels magical.
Maybe it’s the crisp air after a long summer, the golden leaves, or knowing winter is just around the corner. Whatever it is, every year I hear the same thing:
“We should book fall photos this year.”
And honestly? I don’t blame you.
If you’ve lived in Winnipeg for any length of time, you already know our fall colours don’t stick around for long. One windy day can change everything.
That’s why I only schedule outdoor fall family sessions from mid September through early October. During those few weeks, the trees are usually showing off their best colours while the weather is still comfortable enough for little ones to enjoy being outside.
It’s a tiny window—but it’s worth it.
Summer photo sessions are amazing, don't get me wrong. But if you have little ones, those late sunsets make scheduling tough. I want you to have beautiful light and keeping kids up past their bedtimes can go wrong very fast.
Maybe you are like me and just enjoy early evenings.
Every year is different, but USUALLY fall means cooler temperatures making life just easier for all of us. It is hard to look cute when you are sweaty.
Also a great excuse to layer up in cozy clothes.
Probably one of my favorite reasons is after that first frost, the mosquitos are gone! Need I say more as a Winnipeger.
Because I only photograph fall families for a few weeks each year, my calendar is much smaller than it is during the summer.
Once those dates are gone, they’re gone until next year.
If fall is your favourite season—or you’ve been saying, “We should really get family photos this year”—it’s worth booking early so you have the best chance of catching those beautiful Winnipeg colours.
The best fall sessions are usually the ones that feel easy and unforced. A little preparation goes a long way in helping your photos look polished while still feeling natural.
Here are a few simple ways to get ready:
With the right preparation, your session can feel relaxed from start to finish.

Outdoor fall sessions are available from mid-September through early October and are designed to capture both the beautifully posed portraits and the genuine moments that make your family yours.
I can’t control when the leaves decide to show off—but I’ll be ready when they do.
