Family Mini Sessions at Miss Millie’s Flower Farm Near Winnipeg

There are some photography locations that are beautiful. And then there are locations that make you want to slow down, take it all in, and photograph every little corner.

Miss Millie’s Flower Farm is definitely the second kind.

On August 30th, I had the opportunity to photograph a special day of family mini sessions at Miss Millie’s Flower Farm just outside Winnipeg, and it was every bit as beautiful as I planned. Since my last visit, they have expanded the gardens even more and are working hard on a large greenhouse space.

This was a specially arranged booking at the flower farm, with the added bonus of being able to welcome dogs into the garden—which made the day even more special for the families who wanted their four-legged family members included in their photos.

And honestly? A gorgeous flower farm, late-summer blooms, beautiful families and dogs running around the garden is a pretty perfect combination for a family photographer.

A Beautiful Location for Family Photos Near Winnipeg

One of the things I love most about photographing families outdoors is how much the location can add to the final images.

Miss Millie’s Flower Farm is absolutely stunning.

The gardens are filled with beautiful flowers, layers of colour and so many little details that create a gorgeous backdrop without taking attention away from the people being photographed. There is something incredibly special about walking through a flower garden and finding those little pockets of beauty that make each image feel different.

For Winnipeg family photography, locations like this are such a treat.

Instead of a traditional park setting, a flower farm gives your family photos something a little more unique and editorial. The flowers add colour and texture, while the natural surroundings keep the images feeling relaxed, warm and timeless.

And because the garden itself is so beautiful, there isn't a need to overcomplicate things. The flowers do a lot of the work.

Family Photos Are Better When Everyone Is Included

One of my favourite parts of these mini sessions was being able to include dogs.

For so many families, their dog isn't just a pet. They're part of the family.

Being able to photograph the whole family together in such a beautiful setting made these sessions especially meaningful. There was plenty of the usual family-session chaos—wiggles, movement, big personalities and dogs doing exactly what dogs do—but those are often the moments that make the photographs feel the most real.

Late Summer at the Flower Farm

August is such a beautiful time for outdoor family photography in Manitoba.

The gardens are full, the flowers are blooming and there is still that gorgeous warmth that makes summer sessions feel effortless.

The setting at Miss Millie's Flower Farm made it especially easy to create a gallery with variety. We could move through the garden, use different flowers and backgrounds, and capture both more traditional family portraits and relaxed candid moments.

And that is one of the things I look for when choosing or arranging an outdoor location for family photography in Winnipeg—I want there to be enough visual variety that your gallery feels like a collection of moments rather than the same photograph repeated over and over.

It was such a beautiful setting for family photos, and I loved having the opportunity to photograph families surrounded by so much colour and beauty.

The fact that we were able to include dogs made the day even better.
